Know your local hunting laws

Deer hunting is fun unless you have to face the custody for doing so. Deer hunting laws are not the same in every place. So make sure you have a piece of explicit knowledge about your local laws of hunting. Also, check out the license of your weapons, the property laws, noise restrictions and dates and places when and where hunting is permitted.

Dress Accordingly

Imagine going for hunting like Rambo, showing your well-build arms and torso with a gun on your back and one in your hand. Sounds tempting? Well, let me give you a reality check. This might make you feel regret if it is wintertime. So dressing accordingly is a vital tip for hunting. In summer, a T-shirt will work whereas in winter a vest is a must because they can be worn over almost everything. A jacket and coverall camouflaged in layers are also recommendable. Most importantly, invest the right amount of money in boots. Cold feet ruin weddings and hunts. So go get a hunting boot first.

Tools you do not want to miss

A backpack. Yes, a bag full of different small tools will help you to hunt one of those whitetails successfully. What are those items you need in your backpack?

  1. Binoculars
  2. Knives
  3. Ropes
  4. Tarp

Trust me; you will regret every time you miss to carry one of these with you. So why take the risk?

 Know your weapon

Your deer hunting skills depends a lot on how you acknowledge your weapons and weapons sights. Does not matter you use bows or guns, you have to know each inch of it first. As per experts, there are a few guns that will amplify your deer hunting experience are-

  1. 260 Remington
  2. 264 Winchester Magnum
  3. 270 Winchester
  4. 30-30 Winchester

There are some drills you want to do before you actually go into the ground. Swing your guns or bows around to get a good hold. Practice a lot of shooting in the offseason. Do not jerk the trigger, squeeze it. Cross-check your number of ammo. You surely do not want to run out of bullets while hunting, do you?

Scout

If you are thinking of hunting a deer at once, it is not likely to happen. You need to have a clear idea about the area where your prays are. Scout them; scouting deer is different from scouting other animals. Scout from a distance, with glass binoculars. Early morning and late evening are the best time to scout them as they become more active at this time. Have a handful of options for properties to go. Because what looks like a hunting ground in an off-hour, might turn out the parking lot of McDonald’s on the other day. You can take bits of help from maps. Google maps can be quite useful in this case. The earth map can get you a bird view on the areas, and that will surely help you to navigate correctly.

Face the wind

Like it or not, we all stink. And if somehow deer get that winky twinkly sniff of yours, the chance of your bragging before Uncle Ben will vanish before you know it. Not even your 1000$ perfume can not restrict your odor from reaching to the deer. Well, there is a little universal hack; face the wind. Take your position in such a place where you can hunt with the wind in your face. You can simply use a small cigarette lighter to know the direction of the wind. Deer hunting needs patience, so you might need to sit for a longer period of time than you planned. So pack your snacks, even lunch. Having lunch seeing those gorgeous whitetails is not that boring, try it.

Take the shot

So you have done everything right, and you see the deer approaching. Is it time for glory? Yes! Take the shot. But you need to keep some tags in mind as a beginner. Try to focus on the vitals of the animal. No looking at its antlers, nor the surroundings. You can target the behind and above the front shoulder area. Boom! You have done it! But wait, if you are confident about your shot, but the deer do not fall instantly, give it time, might be an hour or two. It will typically go down within the 150 yards of the shot. Hit the deer in the non-lethal area? Take another shot. But if you have missed it clearly, the suggestion will be to let the deer run.

Your chance of hitting a running deer is close to zero if you have lost it at a dead stop. It is always better to take someone with you for the first time as a mentor. A mentor can help you to capitalize on the aspects of hunting and correct your mistakes from their experience. Hunt together, invite them to hunt with you. Observe and learn. And at the end of the day, return home with some beers and stories to share.

Do’s You Should not forget in the woods

The ethical part of hunting a deer is to be ethical in the woods after you are done with hunting. Be more specific while choosing your weapon. The more confident you are with your weapon, the more compassionate you are towards the deer. Treat the land well. Everything you pack in should be packed out. Your food wrappers, your shell casing, and all. Clean it even if it is not yours. It is us who can be more generous to nature by taking care of it, and you can be the one to start it in the woods.

Conclusion

If you can put all the deer hunting tips for beginners like you, missing out is not a concern. Deer is a high organic, lean meat, and you have all the right to enjoy it in a delightful evening because you have earned it. And yes, invite Uncle Ben too, he needs to change his statement. After all, you are not far away from being a pro and a part of the stories that your son will share!
